What Type of Air Conditioning Unit to choose?

You will see the different type of Air Conditioning units explained below:

 Wall Mounted Air Conditioning Unit

The main benefits of wall mounted air conditioners are cost savings and size. Wall mounted air conditioning units can be discreetly and aesthetically installed above doors or windows and generally do not require any additional building works to hide them.

These units can be used as a “wall feature” rather than something to be hidden or blended into the background. Also Mitsubishi Electric have launched a wall mounted MFZ-EF25-50 Zen stylish indoor unit design ( See picture below) which would incorporate your air conditioning requirement with the interior design of your retail units or office space.

Obviously the question of aesthetics is subjective but we believe that there are not many ways to hide the fact that you have an air conditioning unit on the wall but there are other options such as the ceiling options listed below should you prefer not to have an air conditioning unit on the wall and maybe a more discrete option mounted in the ceiling.

Wall mounted air conditioners are also ideal for restaurants, server rooms and almost anywhere else that air conditioning is required as they are the simplest systems to install. Wall mounted air conditioners are available in wide variety of cooling/heating power outputs with 2.5kW units being the smallest. These are perfect for small bedrooms or offices. The largest wall-mounts has an output of 10kW which are best suited for larger offices, server rooms and restaurants.

When compared with other types of air conditioning units, a wall mounted air conditioning unit is often the recommended option for cooling and heating residential properties, offices and retail units.

The main benefits of a wall mounted air conditioner are cost, size and less invasive installation.

 Floor Mounted Air Conditioning Unit

  • Floor mounted air conditioning units fall into two categories, the conventional low level floor mount and the larger ‘console’ type unit.
  • They have all the benefits and features of the system however they have particular benefits over high wall systems.
  • The console provides a high output when wall or ceiling space is restricted
  • Consoles are suited to glazed areas such as car showrooms
  • The low level floor units are aesthetically pleasing – suitable to domestic applications
  • floor mounted units can be installed on to conservatory ‘dwarf walls’
  • These units can also be installed under windows reducing the ‘thermal bridge’

Ducted Air Conditioning Systems

  • A fully integrated heating and cooling system with lower running costs allows you to increase your savings.
  • The option of zoning allows you to heat or cool different zones, this means you don’t waste energy conditioning spaces you aren’t using, reducing your running costs.
  • The latest technology in Ducted Air Conditioning maintains maximum energy efficiency, whilst allowing you to comfortably heat or cool your home to varying temperatures, all with a click of a button.
  • Refrigerated ducted air conditioning also controls humidity during summer, as the system dehumidifies the air in your home/office or retail space. The system provides cooled, filtered and dehumidified air.
  • If replacing currently fitted systems you may be able to utilize the same ductwork and outlet arrangement, saving you the headache of having to install new ductwork.
  • A ducted air conditioning system can be installed in both new and existing premises provided the area has enough ceiling space for the ductwork and fittings.
  • A ducted air conditioning system unit also allows for provisions of tempted fresh air.

 Ceiling Cassette Air Conditioning Units

The Ceiling cassette unit is considered one of the best ‘all round’ performers and it’s benefits include the following:

• Very low noise output  Ceiling cassette units are extremely quite when in use – this goes for both the indoor & outdoor units. Most customers find they barely notice them after just a couple of weeks.
• Ceiling cassette units have a clean modern look & fit in well in the majority of environments, including shops and large offices
• These type of units are relatively quick and easy to install (especially in comparison to air conditioning installation of other types of unit). This is partly due to the fact that they are compact and light in weight and the 60×60 size unit fits directly in to the ceiling as they are the same dimensions as a standard ceiling tile.
• The cooled or heated air can be distributed evenly or in a specific direction giving the user lots of control. This helps keep the environment at an ideal comfort level for all employees and customers
• Ceiling cassette units can work with ceiling heights up to 3.5meters
• Being installed in the ceiling means the units will not encroach on wall or floor space
• Ceiling cassette units are energy saving & can be good value for money

I’m not sure what air conditioning unit I want for my home. It’s small so the wall mounted unit would probably work pretty well. However, I wonder if the other options would be more cost efficient. Do you have a recommendation?

Rose, Thank you for your interest in Aherne Air Conditioning. I hope you found our guide helpful in explaining the different types of Air Conditioning Units available to you. Our recommendation would be a wall mounted unit for home usage, so yes you selected correctly. The benefit of a wall mounted unit is that they are the most cost effective and suitable to your needs. The wall mounted units have extremely quiet sound levels, whilst also delivering economical air conditioning for heating and cooling the area required. To determine the output capacity we would need to take measurements of the area as the size/capacity of unit is determined by the area you wish to heat or cool. I will also email details to you with a comparison of running costs and advantages of using air conditioning to heat or cool your home.
